Bud and Buddies: How to Safely Celebrate St. Patty’s Day, Pandemic-Style

March 9, 2021

The pandemic has put the kibosh on many celebrations, from family gatherings to national holidays. Even if you’re one of the lucky few who has gotten your vaccination in time for St. Patrick’s Day, you may not feel comfortable hitting local bars or attending crowded events.

The good news is that there are plenty of ways to celebrate, especially if getting your green on means picking up some potent products from Freedom Road.

This St. Patty’s Day (and every day, really), a friend with weed can be a friend indeed. If you want to set aside the stresses of modern life and have a little fun on March 17th, here are a few ideas to socialize safely with your favorite flower, concentrates, edibles, or preferred cannabis products.

Netflix Watch Party

If your friends aren’t vaccinated yet and meeting in person isn’t possible, you can still share a toke and some entertainment by scheduling a Netflix watch party, complete with some Irish-themed movies or TV shows. Share a few laughs with the silly scheming of Conor and Jock in the film The Young Offenders or binge the hilarious hijinks of 1990s high-schoolers with the TV series Derry Girls.

Looking for something more serious? Consider Cardboard Gangsters or Peaky Blinders (the latter is set in England but features Irish treasure Cillian Murphy.) If you have the time, you could tackle all three-and-a-half hours of Scorsese’s crime drama The Irishman.

Don’t forget to order your favorite food from a local Irish pub or restaurant to support the local businesses you love, even if you won’t be bellying up to the bar with a crowd of patrons anytime soon.

Socially Distanced Potluck Picnic

Weather permitting, March could be a great time to shake off the doldrums of waning winter and enjoy outdoor activities. If you’re looking to catch up with a friend or a few that you haven’t seen in ages, why not plan a backyard picnic where everyone can supply a favorite dish, enjoy a variety of food options, and catch up with the ones they love?

You’ll have to consider the size of your space and any local restrictions on the scope of gatherings, but with a bit of planning, you can make social distancing possible and still get in some much-needed socializing this St. Patrick’s Day.

With some premium products from Freedom Road and a focus on safe celebration, this could be an ideal way to enjoy some Irish classics like corned beef and cabbage, hearty beef stew, soda bread, chocolate Guinness cake, and more, without having to cook it all yourself and scarf it down solo.

Host a Zoom Dance Party

If you’re like me, you’ve spent some time dancing around your living room in your PJs during the pandemic. Now’s the time to take your solo dance party public by inviting your friends to join.

If you’re vaccinated (or you have a friend or two in your bubble), invite them over to share in your stash of Freedom Road faves and rock out — live and in-person — to some U2, Flogging Molly, Thin Lizzy, or The Cranberries, while the rest of your squad joins you virtually.

With the right plan and the perfect products from Freedom Road, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy a safe and social St. Patty’s Day, despite the ongoing pandemic.
